In-Patient Food Service Rotation:
WellStar West Georgia
I had the privilege to complete my In-Patient Food Service Rotation at Wellstar West Georgia, in Lagrange. During my time at Wellstar, I shadowed and observed the Food Service Manager, as well as applied my dietetics skills to analyze data and trends, such as conducted a survey on patient satisfaction. This survey specifically inquired about tray accuracy and the customer service of diet hosts in the hospital. I used the results from this survey to conduct an inservice presentation on how to correctly set up a hospital tray in the kitchen, to avoid errors and make sure to provide adequate service to the patient. These patients are at a very vulnerable spot, and deserve to be treated the very best so that they can get back to health as soon as possible. I also created a new menu item that was encouraging more vegetables and anti-inflammatory foods into customers diets. I was able to assist in the entire production of this menu item, from ordering the ingredients to serving it to customers in the hospital cafeteria.
This rotation taught me so much and showed me how much detail and hard work goes into food service management, production and operations!
